English/ Language Arts

The sixth grade ELA program focuses on increasing students' abilities in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The program is focused on developing the writing process and reading strategies through the use of a student portfolio. The 6th grade portfolio concentrates on three specific writing genres: report, recounts, and persuasive essay. Reading selections from the Prentice Hall Literature text, as well as selected novels, provide opportunities for students to address current Massachusetts' standards in ELA as well as expectations of MCAS testing. Students will also have the opportunity to use technologies which have been outlined in the new Massachusetts Common Core Standards.


Every Friday your child will receive the homework for the following week.

Daily Writing- Daily writing skills are aligned with the state and national standards for sixth grade. It is divided into 6 traits; organization, word choice, sentence fluency and voice. There will be four assignments, one due each day...Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
